Men and Skin Care

Skin care is such an important issue that many men over look. First we need to know the difference between the skin on men and women. There really is a difference. Female skin is a bit different due to hormones, so there is more of a tendency of inflammation and break outs.
On the male side there is a tendency for more sun damage because of a lack of care. Not using sun screen (probably a vanity issue), or anything thing else requiring protection from the sun, like wearing hats or proper clothing is hazardous to the skin. As men get older they will get the same sun spots women try to avoid.
A very odd thing that occurs with men is that they have rougher skin and they exfoliate more than women. The guys just don't have the dryness due to the exfoliation that occurs when they shave their faces. This is a natural way to remove dead skin. Men should watch what they are doing with SPF and use a good cleanser. Break outs are very common with guys, not because their skin is oily, and not because they are taking time to care for it. The problem is that they are usually using the wrong products. They will use a product that their wife or girlfriend has left lying around or use something they found on sale at the market. They are not paying attention to what they are doing. Using the right cleanser and ridding the body of daily exposure to dirt and grime is very important. Just like you wash your body, you want to wash your face.
Watch out for products that have fragrances in them. A lot of colognes have a matching shower gels or facial balms. Some facial balms come with an irritant in it that really doesn't work with your skin. Be aware of these and try to avoid them.
Most men aren't aware that they really do need anti-ageing products. Although toners a very good for their skin (here comes that vanity issue again), they generally don't use them and men need a good moisturizer. A combination of SPF and a good moisturizer is ideal. If the guy doesn't mind getting an occasional facial, a trip to the spa would be a great gift. Not only would it be a relaxing thing to do, but it will be educational in finding out how to tend to their skin properly and healthily.
So, remove all the oils from the face, exfoliate and use a good combination of SPF and moisturizers before going out into the world! Avoiding a lot of sun is also helpful.
