Are You Anti-Aging?


  There is a new science called Life Extension where scientists attempt to discover how we may live longer. We have anti-aging medicine, experimental gerontology, and biomedical gerontology to investigate how we may be helped in our declining years.
  There are few of us who wouldn't want to live longer if we were healthy and vibrant, but some of us are fearful of getting old and wrinkly, and not able to participate in life the way we want. What can we do to improve our health and reduce the debilitation that is prevalent in our ageing years?
  There are mysterious sciences investigating stem cells, there maybe molecular repair and nanotechnology and cloning, body part replacement and gene therapy, all of which I don't understand and I'm not sure if I really want to. All is not doom and gloom! There are many simple things that we can do to improve our wellbeing, most of which we know, but in this busy world it is hard to make the time for a positive lifestyle. There are some laws to follow!
1. Fresh air; several times a day find the freshest air that you can and take several deep breaths, filling your lungs right into your belly then breathing out slowly.
2. Exercise; when possible walk or exercise early in the morning to benefit from the freshest air. This will saturate your blood cells with oxygen. Walk on the grass barefoot and bring back balance with nature.
3. Sunlight; did you know that only 2% of sunlight enters through our skin? The 98% of sunlight enters through our eyes! Artificial lighting contributes to hyperactivity, stress and eyestrain. Along with that, we crave carbohydrates, want to sleep longer, and we get irritable and depressed; Lack of ultraviolet during the winter is the single biggest reason for depression. When the amount of sunshine that we have is reduced, our immune system drops and we catch more colds virus and flu.
4. Rest; do you get a refreshing nights sleep? We can improve the quality of our sleep by having an active lifestyle, aiming for a regular sleep time, not sleeping on a full stomach, reducing stimulants like computer, television, tobacco, and caffeine well before going to bed; relax instead with a bath, herbal tea and an inspirational book or soft music. Avoid alcohol as it interferes with good sleep and body repair.
5. Set time aside to be thankful for the many blessings we have. Research has shown that spirituality helps to control stress, strengthen the immune system, and protect against heart disease and cancer. Beyond these benefits, God promises eternal life to those who trust Him-a life of perfect health and freedom from pain, fear, and death. We can ask God to give us spiritual insight so that we may truly hear Him, and lean on His strength.
6. Water; Soft drinks and coffee can no more clean the inside of our bodies than they can the outside! We need lots of water every day to clean and remove toxins and eliminate them. 6-8 glasses of water is recommended every day.
7. Nutrition; Do we rely on taste buds as the criteria to choose the foods we buy for ourselves and our children, or do we put some effort into planning healthy food as well as a healthy lifestyle? The figures of people affected by chronic illnesses are staggering. We make choices every day that affect how we live and feel; good food and lifestyle choices can reduce our chances for illness. Plants grow using minerals from the soil. these are passed along to us! Hippocrates said something that still applies today... let food be your medicine! The life-giving elements in our plant food can be damaged by heating, so buy as fresh as you can, and increase the amount of raw food you eat every day to get the most from it.

  A huge industry of healthcare products is with us and there are a plethora of healthcare products to choose from, attempting to give us nutrition that is missing from our life. Do we need it? Which ones do we buy? Everyday science gives us more information on health benefits they have found in our food! Even wine and coffee! Then vitamin companies find a way to produce artificially the element found in the plant..I find this disturbing; but there are companies producing liquid from high antioxidant fruits and veggies, and these have to be better! Take the time to really look at what you and your family are eating, and see where you can encourage better, fresher food, and improve your quality of life.
